STRUCTURAL TIMBER
STRUCTURAL TIMBER SIZES:
TIMBER GRADES:
Stress Graded Structural Timber: Used to quantify the structural strength of timber boards, with common grades S5 and S7. These grades relate to the stress in bending that can be safely sustained under long-term loading. Relevant standards include SANS 1783, SANS 10096 for finger joints, and SANS 1288 for CCA treatment. This timber is mainly used in load-bearing applications like roof trusses and timber frame construction.
Utility Grade: Also referred to as Black Cross Grade. Not suitable for load-bearing applications as it is uncertified and may contain defects. It is used in non-load-bearing applications.
